Celebrating 40 Years with a Retrospective Art Show

Hard to believe, but it’s been 40 years since ANF was founded!

As part of our 40th year celebration, we invited artists who have exhibited in our gallery to be a part of a special art exhibit,  ANF 40th Anniversary Retrospective,  "Where They Were and Where They Are Now."

The Opening Night Reception on Friday, April 10th was a celebration indeed! It felt more like a reunion than an art show opening. There was no pressure which left the artists free to interact with each other mingling with old friends & new.

This exhibit, hanging until May 11th & open to the public, features the work of 20 well-known local artists:

Janice Albertine; Jimpsie Ayres; Valerie Berlin; Mike Coulson; Carol DeForest; Bob Eoff; Pamela Hassler; Connie Hendrix; George Hunt; Jack Kenner; Zeinu Mudeser; Fred Rawlinson; Mary Reed; Murray Riss; John Robinette; Sally Hughes Smith; Dolph Smith; Roy Tamboli; Carroll Todd; & Ephraim Urevbu

The artists' original artwork, donated to ANF’s collection at the time of their first exhibition in our gallery (Where They Were), is displayed alongside pieces from the artists' current work (Where They Are Now).

To further promote art in our community, the artwork from ANF's permanent collection (Where They Were) is for sale and 100% of the proceeds will go to a local, art-related organization of the buyer's choice with the option to choose from: ArtsMemphis, Memphis College of Art, Delta Arts, The Brooks Museum, RiverArtsFest, or The University of Memphis. In addition, all participating artists donated 20% of the sale price of pieces sold during this exhibit from their current work (Where They Are Now) to the local, art-related charity of the buyer's choice.

The show was reviewed by Fredric Koeppel in the Commercial Appeal on April 29th. Read the review.

Since its inception in 1975, ANF has had strong ties to what is going on in the Memphis community, particularly in the fine arts. Believing art and architecture to be intertwined, we designed our offices around a large gallery. Since 1988, we've hosted over 150 art exhibits, showcasing both emerging and established artists.
